Organic Baby Food, Blendtec Style

We jumped on the Blendtec bandwagon recently and have been coming up with all sorts of concoctions. Some of them not so good. Actually most of them, we may need to just to stick to recipes until we get the hang of things. But one thing I have loved making is organic baby food. I used to buy Finn organic baby food and even though it says "organic" on the label, I still feel a little uneasy about feeding it to him. You just never know, you know? So when we got the blendtec I figured this was my chance to make him homemade organic baby food. Here are a few of our favorite baby food recipes that we have come up with, and let me tell you, Finn totally loves them!

Homestyle Chicken Meal (chicken, rice, and veggies)

1 organic, free range chicken breast, cooked (we baked ours)
1 cup brown rice, cooked
1/2 cup quinoa, cooked
1 1/2 cups of steamed organic veggies (we like carrots, broccoli, green beans, peas, zucchini, spinach)
1 baked sweet potato (important for the delicious taste)
1/2-1 cup water

Blend it. If you're using a blendtec, push the batter button for a creamy consistancy. Pulse for a textured consistancy.

Mexican Fiesta (beans, chicken, rice and veggies)

1 organic, free range chicken breast, cooked (we baked ours)
1 can black beans, cooked
1 cup brown rice, cooked
1/2 cup quinoa, cooked
1 1/2 cups of steamed organic veggies (we like carrots, broccoli, green beans, peas, zucchini, spinach)
1 baked sweet potato (important for the delicious taste)
1/2-1 cup water

Blend it. If you're using a blendtec, push the batter button for a creamy consistancy. Pulse for a textured consistancy.

Meatless Meal (sweet potatoes, butternut squash, veggies)

2 baked sweet potatoes
2 cups cooked butternut squash (we use organic frozen butternut squash, it's always a fight peeling that thing)
1 cup veggies (we just used carrots for this one, keepin in orange)
1 cup brown rice or quinoa, cooked
1/2-1 cup water

Blend it. If you're using a blendtec, push the batter button for a creamy consistancy. Pulse for a textured consistancy.

Peaches n Cream Oatmeal

2 cups cooked rolled oats
1/2 cup cooked quinoa
4 peaches, peeled and pitted
2 bananas, peeled
2 apricots, peeled
1/2-1 cup almond milk, rice milk, or water

Blend it. If you're using a blendtec, push the batter button for a creamy consistancy. Pulse for a textured consistancy.

Blueberry Oatmeal

2 cups cooked rolled oats
1/2 cup cooked quinoa
1 1/2 cup blueberries
2 bananas, peeled
1/2 cup almond milk, rice milk, or water

Blend it. If you're using a blendtec, push the batter button for a creamy consistancy. Pulse for a textured consistancy.

Fruit Puree

3 apples, peeled, cored, and steamed
3 pears, peeled, cored, steamed
1 ripe mango, peeled and pitted

Blend it. If you're using a blendtec, push the batter button.

These meals are good for 3 days refrigerated and up to 30 days frozen. Instead of buying those little empty baby food jars we bought small ziploc tupper ware containers, they are much cheaper and you can stack them which is a bonus! Making these meals definitely takes some time but it's so worth it and these recipes make quite a bit of food and should last up to 3 weeks or more. Good luck, and babies, enjoy!
