DIY Cotton Gauze Swaddler Blankets

I love these swaddle blankets from Aden + Anais. They are so functional plus they are adorable.
My little fella isn't here yet but I've used these blankets on a few little tykes and they make swaddling so much easier. The downside of these gems? They are a bit pricey. You can get a pack of 4 for about 35 dollars at Target. Which isn't outrageously expensive but it's not really in my price range unfortunately. So of course, what do I do? I make them. I can't take credit for this DIY project,  I stumbled upon a pin on pinterest for homemade gauze swaddlers.

FIY:  JoAnn's had a few different patterns of cotton gauze but they were girly so I just bought white and dyed one of the blankets orange to spice things up.

Materials
1 1/4 yards of cotton gauze (I got 2.5 yards to make 2 blankets) I bought my gauze at JoAnn's for $6.99 a yard but guess what? I had a 40% off coupon so I got both blankets for 8 bucks!

1. This is the easiest thing ever. Hem all the sides about 1/4 of an inch or so.
2. You're done (if you aren't dying the blanket).

3. If you're dying the swaddler just follow the directions closely on the RIT box. I only left mine in the dye bath for 30 minutes, I wish I would have left it in longer for a darker orange.

There you have it. Easy peasy. I can't wait to swaddle my little nugget in his homemade gauze blankets.

  1. Allyssa, I love this idea. Especially for a baby shower present. Moms to be would love a personalized swaddles blanket. Plus, it definitely will get used when the newborn comes! JoAnn is one of my favorite places to be- plus now there's an app for their coupons too!! yay!
