Olive + Birch

We have adopted two new feathery friends into our home. Meet Olive and Birch. They are cockatiels and they are precious.
Growing up we always had cockatiels (they were always named Fiji... apparently that's the only bird name we could come up with, ever.) and in fact they looked just like little Olive. I adored these birds as if they were my own children. I always had a bird on my shoulder. They would snuggle with me, chew (and poop) on my homework, give kisses, and nap on my shoulder.

Now let me tell you a sad story.
One of the Fiji's was on my brothers shoulder. In comes Daisy (german short haired pointer = hunting dog). Fiji gets scared, flies of shoulder. Dog attacks bird. I won't go into the details but let me tell you, it was a very traumatic experience for my little pre-teen self to handle. I was in mourning for weeks over that little bird.

Here's a happy story.
Yesterday I get a knock on the door. I open it. I see a big white bird cage with TWO cockatiels. I jump for joy! I have the most thoughtful of husbands, I've been talking about wanting a bird for months and what did he do? He surprised me two little fluff balls for Valentines Day/Anniversary Day. I love him. And I love my Olive and Birch.

Happy Day.

We named them after trees. We thought it was fitting.

  8. Oh my gosh your cockatiels are so cute! I've had birds my whole life.. well not anymore since I'm married but growing up as a child!

My parents still have the birdies we got when I was in fourth grade, Lemondrop and BG. Lemondrop is a lutino cockatiel and throughout the years he has lost his eye sight, we adopted him after my other cockatiel Sunbeam flew away (saddest day of my life). Well long story short, we put flyers all over the neighborhood and no one ever found her but this lady felt bad and gave us her bird (BG) and when she was drunk she cut his left wing wrong and now he can't fly and when he gets scared and runs into stuff it bleeds.

So now we have two handicap little cockatiels but we love them oh so very much. Your story about Fiji broke my heart!

Anyway sorry about all that thanks for your sweet comment on my blog the other day (:
